ISCAT supports the development of literacy programmes and schools in Africa.

ISCAT Teachers went to Zambia

Ceri Thomas and Chloe Remy, last years Nursery class teachers at ISCAT, have returned from their trip to Africa.

They have offered their skills as Primary school teachers to help the teachers in the community schools in Ndola.

During the 1990's Zambia's education system could not accommodate the thousands of children who required primary school education. The HIV/AIDS pandemic has left orphaned children without carers and these children do not have access to mainstream education provided by government schools.

Community Schools came into existence as a result of this dire need. Churches, concerned citizens and carers started these schools to provide basic literacy and numeracy skills for orphans, disadvantaged and vulnerable children.

Ceri and Chloe have worked work with the teachers in these schools and have offered their expertise to help improve the provision for these children.

They have organised fund raising events at ISCAT and have rased awareness of the conditions and the needs of these Zabian schools.
