In Juniors we are all four and five years old and the gateway to literacy is open for us. Our daily language activities offer a world of books, stories and literature, represented through our emergent writing and our growing knowledge of sounds and letters. Art is also animportant means of communication for us, and our weekly assembly gives us an opportunity to present and share what we have learned and created with others. Our teachers foster and respect our creativity and the individual learning profile of each one.
In Mathematics we use investigative mathematics and concrete objects and materials to help us build a solid understanding of number, counting, and simple everyday operations. We realise that it is important to be able to choose the right strategies to solve problemsand we are encouraged to show our thinking through pictures, numbers and words.
Our Units of Enquiry help us to learn about the world, and allow us to continually make connections between what we already know and our new discoveries. In order to foster these links, we use the unit as a tool wherever possible to make links with reading, writing, mathematics, art and science. Each unit relates to a different area of learning and lasts approximately six weeks.
