September 2013 saw the launch of ISCAT’s Secondary Project with our oldest students beginning Year 7.

In Key Stage 3 (from 11 to 14 years) students follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales, with complementary studies in Spanish and Catalan, taking the following compulsory subjects:

  • English Language and Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Geography
  • History
  • Modern Foreign Language (French)
  • Catalan
  • Spanish
  • Music
  • Art and Design
  • Citizenship*
  • Design and Technology
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Physical Education

* Citizenship aims to shape responsible citizens, aware of their rights and obligations within a democratic model of society. Environmental awareness and its implications are fostered.

Students take SATs (Standardized Achievement Tests) at the end of Year 9.

In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) students prepare for their IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations which are taken at the end of Year 11. This is equivalent to finishing ESO in Spain in order to access the ‘Bachillerato’. IGCSE results are automatically convalidated by Spanish and European law.

In addition, at ISCAT, as part of our educational programme, Secondary students are prepared to take their official Cambridge English examinations. These exams take place at school as ISCAT is an officially recognised exam centre.

Finally, in Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13) students will work towards obtaining the International Advanced Levels examinations which are taken at the end of Year 13. This diploma is recognised and accepted by universities across Europe and Worldwide, including Spain.
