Wishing all members of the ISCAT community a Happy New Year gives us an opportunity not only to look back on a year – 2019 – but also a whole decade. Much has happened at our school over the past ten years. In 2010, ISCAT was still in its early stages with our oldest students then being only in Year 3 (our current Year 13s) We were largely housed in the old Can Fages building on the Passeig, and our current Manuel Raspall Primary building had only two classrooms (Year 2 and Year 3)! Over the course of the decade we not only fully developed the Manuel Raspall building, but took over the Blancafort building. built and inaugurated our new state-of-the-art Secondary Xavier Calls building in 2015. 2017 saw the dawn of our new infant building – Caselles – and a growth from 13 students in 2007 to the present enrolment of over 200 students, many of whom are international, seeking quality education in English with a British curriculum.
Yet as we face into that magical, numerically beautiful, 2020, we believe that we are facing into a changing world and a very different future for ourselves and our families. Nobody has marked 2019 like activist Greta Thunberg, who at the age of just seventeen, has inspired and moved governments, educational institutions, and indeed our own students, families and staff with her absolute commitment to saving the planet for future generations. Thanks to her, we are all, in our own way, taking steps to make positive changes in shaping our own future and lifestyle. 2019 will also be remembered for the #MeToo movement and the ongoing struggle for women’s rights. Equal pay for women has also been at the fore. Women’s football took the world stage with the Women’s World Cup gaining media coverage like never before, and Megan Rapinoe making a stand for equality of pay in not only in women’s football, but in all sports.
2020 is a Leap Year, so we will once again enjoy a February 29th! Tradition states that on February 29th ladies need no longer demurely wait to be asked but may propose marriage to the beloved..So…. ISCAT ladies, don’t let this one slip past.
A HAPPY AND HEALTHY 2020 TO ALL
