OUR MISSION

We offer a stimulating, engaging and challenging multicultural environment where the intellectual, emotional and creative potential of each student is developed, optimised and respected.

ISCAT encourages the highest standards of academic achievement and provides access to third-level institutions across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

The curriculum, which is compatible with the local “Plan de la Generalitat”, is based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales and brings together the best of anglophone education abroad.

The value given to each child’s personality, home language, creativity and rhythm of development is characteristic of the school’s commitment, requiring that the classroom become, for each and every child, a place of welcome, a nurturing environment, where each individual enters happily each day, confident that his or her own personality is respected and valued.

At every instance, our school’s pedagogy supports high academic achievement, intellectual, creative and emotional development for each child, and the fostering of a lifelong passion for learning.

Our Environment

Our main campus is based in La Garriga, traditionally famous for its thermal springs and is comprised of four buildings: Blancafort, Manuel Raspall, Xavier Calls and Caselles, which combined may host up to 300 students from Nursery to Year 13. We have a safe play area for our smallest children and a park with a football field and basketball hoops used by our older students.

Our La Garriga Campus is located 30 minutes away from Barcelona centre and from the beaches of the Costa Brava, and one and a half hours from the Pyrenees, with its dozens of quality skiing opportunities.

La Garriga is green, beautiful and safe with plenty of references to modernism. All main shops, restaurants, sport clubs, cinema, music schools, swimming pool and train station to go into Barcelona centre are within short walking distance of the school.

The closest airports are located in Barcelona and Girona, both of which offer multiple connections to a range of destinations.

Our School

Learning at ISCAT

Learning to learn, learning to be, learning to think. At the International School of Catalunya (ISCAT), the personal growth of each student is at the heart of our educational programme. Our students prepare for the future through academic challenge and stimulation.

UNICEF

The International School of Catalunya (ISCAT) is proud to have earned UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award and is one of the first schools to pioneer the project outside of the UK.

The award is based on the 1989 Convention of the Rights of the Child and is designed to make our children aware of their rights but also the responsibilities which accompany each one. We believe that in this way students grow to recognize their privileges and can envision their own contribution to a balanced society.

Forest school education

We follow the Forest Schools pedagogy – a Scandinavian initiative from the 1950’s now gaining popularity across Europe and in particular, the United Kingdom, which optimises the use of nature and the outdoors as a teaching and learning resource.

Outdoor activities are organised in natural settings, such as the forest, the mountains or the beach, with multiple benefits for students: improved personal relationships as well as increased self-esteem and self-knowledge. Different curricular areas are addressed in the Forest experience and environmental awareness develops and grows through team-building, creativity and problem-solving, all the while reinforcing positive relationships with peers.

Duke of Edinburgh

We offer our Secondary students the opportunity to participate in the world renowned Duke of Edinburgh Award programme with our Year 10 students preparing for the Bronze Award each year. Students individually achieve their awards by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections – Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. Students help their communities, get fit and gain important life skills in preparing for their adventurous journey. Through the activities and projects they acquire experiences, friends and talents that will stay with them forever. At the International School of Catalunya (ISCAT) Secondary, the DofE Award is a natural progression from our Forest School activities in Primary.

School Meals Menu

The ISCAT school dining room service is available to all students. They have two options: to avail of the school catered lunch service or alternatively to bring a packed lunch from home.

Our daily menus are prepared by a small home-style catering company in La Garriga, with all menus being supervised by a qualified dietician, to guarantee a balanced and healthy lunch each day. Students with specific dietary requirements, allergies or food intolerances may request a special menu adapted to their needs.

School transport

ISCAT offers school transport, mornings and afternoons, provided by Autocars Samblás, to accommodate families who require this service.

The established route offers pick-up and drop-off service at the following points: Barcelona, Vilanova del Vallès, Granollers and la Garriga.

Our objective is to offer ISCAT families, within the possibilities of our small but growing school, a reliable and secure service which meets the needs of many members of our community. The service includes a monitor who supervises students on the journey to and from school.

A Word

From our director

” Through the medium of the British curriculum and its modern, concept-driven approach, we strive to ensure that every ISCAT student receives the tools at school to develop a deep knowledge of self, to feel valued for what he or she can offer within the classroom, within the school and ultimately within society by means of our UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools, Forest School and Emotional Education Programmes. Carefully accompanying and guiding our older students in their choice of subjects at GCSE, BTech and A Level, and facilitating and shaping entry to their chosen professions, we are confident that our inclusive school honours its commitment in offering a meaningful life path for every profile of learner. “
