Year 6 learned about the essential nutrients that our bodies need to survive. Furthermore, they investigated about the impact of over or under-consumption.
To place this into the context of their daily lives, we brought food labels from our homes. All toghether we analysed their nutritional content against the daily recommended guidelines.
The students were surprised to learn about the sheer number of nutrients required and the amount of “hidden” nutrients displayed on the processed food packaging.
They also discussed the role of the media and marketing companies on how the information they provide to us influences our food choices.
Now though, Year 6 have the knowledge to be able to think beyond the media perspective of what is “healthy” by asking questions and looking at the nutritional labels for themselves
