Our story

British education with a difference

a personalised approach and authentic learning

Founded in 2007, The International School of Catalunya (ISCAT) is a British school located in the small town of La Garriga, Barcelona. Through our personalised programme , we offer formal British education to students aged 3 to 18, from Early Years to A Levels.  All students follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales, taking the British GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) at approximately aged 16, and the A Level (British baccalaureate) thereafter.  Both are recognised and officially convalidated by both local (Generalitat) and international institutions. The British system of education is lauded worldwide for its high standard of achievement, inclusion and forward-thinking curriculum.

ISCAT complements the core curriculum with activities and initiatives designed to build and promote self-esteem, resilience and community spirit, such as Forest School and the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools programme.

In 2012, we became the first school in Spain to offer  Forest School  under the guidance of qualified Forest Leader Emma Montgomery.  With the wonderful Malhivern forest just a short walk away, our students have at hand an idyllic setting for experiential learning in this natural woodland environment, which not only fosters a deep respectful connection with nature but also serves as an inspiration for learning within the classroom.

As an accredited Gold Award UNICEF Rights Respecting School,  the articles of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child underpin not only our programme of learning, but also inform all policies and the day-to-day governance of the school.
