Juan Barcena

Juan Barcena

HEAD OF SECONDARY

Juan graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Masters in Romance Languages. A seasoned traveller, his work as an educator has taken him to many exotic and diverse locations around the globe – Costa Rica, New Orleans, India -excelling as a teacher of Spanish and P.E within the British system in all his posts. He is especially interested in everything sports-related, travel and food. A keen writer, Juan’s first book ‘Latidos’ – a beautiful account of his travels around the globe, was published in 2020. His second novel, ‘Jartarse a Morir’ – a story based on a real-life incident of mysterious deaths in France, was published in November 2023. Juan teaches Spanish at ISCAT and is currently acting Head of Secondary and A Levels (Sixth Form).

Katherine Mayne

Katherine Mayne

HEAD OF SIXTH FORM, HISTORY TEACHER & EXAMS OFFICER

Katherine completed her BA Hons in Political Science at Newcastle University and then proceeded to take the Graduate Diploma in Law from Leeds Metropolitan University. For the first part of her career Katherine worked in asylum and refugee law . After deciding to pursue an alternative path Katherine completed a PGCE with Nottingham University and taught for 5 years in an international school in Thailand, before returning to the UK to complete her QTS in her hometown of Newcastle. She is ISCAT’s History and Politics teacher as well as our exams officer. She enjoys travelling and learning more about other cultures and peoples and tries to bring this international perspective into her teaching wherever possible.

Tim Sarsini

Tim Sarsini

YEAR 7 FORM TUTOR / ICT TEACHER

Over nearly 25 years’ experience within both mainstream and special needs education, Tim has designed, implemented, taught and overseen numerous pedagogically driven solutions within primary and higher ed from schools, online companies through to therapy and  learning centres, coordinating with language learners and clients from all ages and backgrounds. Tim has a strong interest in exploring and exploiting the influencing factors that drive effective learning and opening paths to active diverse learning and social spaces.  He successfully completed a university post-graduate course in Special Education and Psychosocial training, a diploma in Organizational Leadership and hold a masters degree in Art Psychotherapy and Psychosocial Training. Outside of work he enjoyed spending time with family – painting, cycling, walking, and being outdoors.

Victoria Hearle

P.E & PSYCHOLOGY A-LEVEL TEACHER

As well as being SENDCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) at ISCAT Vicky is also the P.E. and psychology teacher. She is English and has lived in Catalunya for over 5 years. Vicky holds a masters qualification in Inclusion and Special Needs and was the Head of Special Needs at al large secondary school in London for several years . Vicky’s practice is based on her belief that every child has the potential for success and she is passionate about promoting equal opportunities for children. She is also a qualified English language teacher. She loves sports and regularly plays tennis and padel as well as hiking and cycling in the mountains.

MATHEMATICS TEACHER

Erin teaches Mathematics throughout Secondary and to A Level. Erin holds a Masters degree in Secondary Mathematics as well as a B.A in Mathematics and Music from Bard College, New York. With over ten years experience in teaching different math curricula in New York, Germany and Spain, Erin’s enthusiasm for Mathematics inspires every student. Apart from leading our students to excellence at GCSE and A Level, Erin leads the Maths Club at ISCAT, coaching and preparing its members for international competitions in Mathematics. In her spare time, Erin loves to dedicate time to her other passion – music.

Kirsty Mansfield

YEAR 9 FORM TUTOR / ENGLISH TEACHER

Kirsty is originally from the UK, however she’s been living in Spain for many years. She obtained her BA Honours Degree in English and Media Studies from Swansea University. After relocating to Spain, she acquired a CELTA certification to teach English as a second language and has dedicated over 10 years to teaching English to a wide variety of age groups and levels. In her free time, Kirsty enjoys eating the local cuisine and trying new restaurants. She is an avid reader, and also loves cinema, hanging out with friends and walking the family dogs.

 

Claire Ryan

YEAR 12 FORM TUTOR / CHEMISTRY & BIOLOGY TEACHER

Claire teaches Biology and Chemistry at ISCAT to GCSE and A Level, having graduated from Maynooth University, Ireland with a BSc in Science Education. She obtained her QTS in the UK and National Curriculum experience at Slough, England. Coming from a family of educators, Claire’s twin sister is also a teacher. She loves Gaelic football, photography and the Rolling Stones and makes an amazing lemon drizzle cake.

Charles Cadet

YEAR 10 FORM TUTOR / ART TEACHER

Charles is our Art & Design teacher for secondary and A level. Originally from France, Charles has a degree in Fine Art from the University of Biarritz. He has worked in different sectors of art and design, such as illustration, fashion, the visual arts, cinema, 2D animation and photography. He has been living in Spain for over three years, where he has been working in costume design as a tailor. In his free time Charles loves running, going to the cinema, relaxing with friends and pursuing his passion for clothing design and the visual arts.

 
 
Alexandra Anastasiadou

Alexandra Anastasiadou

Y8 FORM TUTOR / PHYSICS TEACHER

Alex is an environmental physicist, teaching Science in KS3, Physics in KS4 and KS5 and some Chemistry in KS4. She studied physics in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and did a postgraduate degree in Environmental Engineering in Crete, obtaining her QTS (qualified teacher status) from the UK, having worked in research prior to pursuing her passion for teaching. Alex loves travelling and in her free time enjoys yoga, going climbing and playing music. She is also a competent linguist – speaking Greek, English, French and Spanish fluently.

YEAR 11 FORM TUTOR / CATALAN & SPANISH TEACHER

Andrea teaches Spanish Language and Literature, Catalan Language and Literature and History of Spain and Catalunya in Secondary. She graduated in 2015 with a degree in Hispanic Language and Literature from the Universitat de Girona and specialized in Secondary Teaching Degree at Universitat de Barcelona. Andrea is a creative person and she loves drawing, painting and design. She also studied Graphic Arts at Escola JOSO in Barcelona. She loves spending time at home watching movies and reading, and her favourite seasons are autumn and winter. 

Isaura Duran

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

Isaura is our school Psychologist. She graduated from the University of Barcelona with a degree in Child and Youth Psychology in 1998, with a Masters in learning disabilities and a postgraduate course in psychomotor therapy. She also holds a Practitioner qualification in NLP and has a wide experience in clinical psychology. She has owned a psychology surgery since 2000 and has been working as a school counselor and educational psychologist for nearly 20 years. She joined ISCAT in 2013, forming part of the SEN Department and provides support and guidance to students with emotional or learning difficulties. She also advises teachers and families, liaises with external professionals and works together with our SENDCO. In her free time Isaura loves cooking and sports and regularly practices swimming and goes hiking.

Scott Shepherd

GEOGRAPHY, A-LEVEL BUSINESS AND KS4 ICT TEACHER

Scott teaches Geography as well as Business A-level and ICT. He also plays an active role in ISCAT’s Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Having trained as a Geographer at the California State University, Sacramento, Scott worked as a Research Analyst for the State of California, testing new technologies such as the global positioning system and geographical information systems, giving him 14 years experience of working with maps, demographics, geology and databases. He has been stimulated and strengthened by the international relocations he has made with his family, and his daily joys and rewards include the positive feedback on lessons from his students, yoga, strenuous hikes and bike rides – all of which have driven his resolve as much as his endurance!

Andrea Pacubi

Andrea Pacubi

MATHS, CHEMISTRY & SCIENCE TEACHER

Andrea started his career in the education sector as a lab technician in 2019 at an international school in Como, Italy. Later, he obtained his PGCE through East London University and obtained experience in teaching both IB and A level chemistry. His passions are diverse, from science and nature to sports such as climbing, cycling and backcountry snowboarding. He has a very curious mind and always tries to seek reasonable explanations for each problem in life. This affects the way he teaches and relates to his students. He delivers open lessons, always trying to engage each student to push their limits while also making sure that they can find passion towards the subject. His lessons involve many practical science demonstrations and activities, creating a kinesthetic experience for the pupils.
