A hands-on exercise helped Year 12 students visualise how different parts of the Earth rotate at different speeds. Those farther from the equator travel a shorter distance during each rotation – meaning Barcelona spins roughly half as fast as Quito. ⚡
This difference drives the Coriolis effect, which helps tropical cyclones form and swirl more than 5° north and south of the equator. 🌪️
